it says the disc drive is there but wont read cds dvds or anythin
i only want a pros help

I’m looking at buying a small, lightweight, low spec, second hand laptop for travel and use outdoors and have been considering the older Portege models (R100, M300 etc).
However does anyone know what the quality of Toshibas screens on these laptops are? I ask because I owned a Toshiba Tecra M2 with a screen which was impossible to view outdoors and I dont want to make the same mistake.
Also if anyone has any other suggestions for small, cheap, lightweight laptops with a half decent screen I’d be grateful!

I lost the top plastic part of the Esc key on my Toshiba Portege laptop. The key itself is still working but it is tricky to press it without the top plastic part, especially when trying to type quickly. How can I fix it?
I called a local Toshiba repair center and they said that they do not replace individual keys, only the whole keyboard, and that the total cost for the keyboard replacement is $212 (parts and labor). Is there a cheaper way to fix it?

Which laptops u think much better?The different between these two are their HDD :toshiba uses hitachi hdd 5200 rpm while dell uses seagate with 7200 rpm.

I am going to use laptop to do my assignment and some presentation.play some online game like yahoo chess.browsing internet frequently.

I own a “Toshiba Portege R205-S209 12.1″ Laptop”.When i switch on my system,it says a file of windows is corrupted and refuses to boot further.It says to insert Original set-up cd-ROM and to press “r” to repair.I have the following doubt
1:Can we insert any windows Cd??
2:I did insert another windows cd and a repair console comes just like the command prompt.Wat command do i type in there?
3:Suppose i re-install complete windows Xp again using the windows CD i hav(not the one i got when i bought it) do i have to install the drivers?
Actually,i hav lost the driver cd…

i need a new laptop that is portable and have decent specs (2.0 GHz and above, 2GB RAM, 180GB HDD and above, 13′3 screen) so far, i am considering
the blackbook
vaio sz series
or toshiba portege m600.
(vaio and portege with those specs i mentioned)
they are all about the same price and i am ready to take the mac os x plunge. i am very confused because they all seem to be good and pretty equal.
so, can you guys suggest which one i should get?

first I want to upgrade my Toshiba Portege laptop with a better GPU and CPU i have already called toshiba technical support to verify that my CPU is not soldered to the mother board and that i can change it to a 2.33ghz processor im just not sure which one i can use. I currently have an intel core duo t2500 2ghz processor. secondly i wanted to upgrade my laptops graphics performance currently i have Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with 8MB-128M and i want to know what my options are.

I have a old Toshiba Portege T3600. I plugged it in and started using it. After I turned it off it began to smell like smoke/fire. I took out the battery and It was hot! I still have the battery out but the computer smells like fireworks. Im afraid to plug it back in or put the battery back in. Was there a battery recall for this model or something? But then again I pluged it into a 16volt power adapter when it says it takes a 15 volt adapter. What should I do? I can still return it back to the store I bought it from but want to know if its still ok.

I’ve taken the laptop and put it in for repair after the processor was hitting 80 degrees(C) whilst doing a disk clean-up [Tested Via Speedfan]. Technicians said that they couldn’t see a problem with it and all the tests that they had done was fine, even though toshiba online support said they was getting 30 degrees(C) playing WoW on the same model laptop, I’m currently getting approx 30 degrees(C) using iTunes.
I can’t undo the laptop as this will void the warranty, I was wondering if I could either upgrade/change the fans or change the BIOS for the fans to work harder as the fans only realy kick in when extremely high temperatures are reached such as 80 degrees(C).
